One great thing about summer is all of the great opportunities available because of the nice weather. Picnics in Central Park and taking the Q to Coney Island for the day are just a few of the wonderful possibilities that summer has to offer. Another great thing to do is to watch your favorite films on the big screen in some of New York’s iconic locations. Here are just a few recommendations on places that hold screenings this summer:
Quad CinemaWebsite: https://quadcinema.com/
A great old haunt in our very own West Village neighborhood is the Quad Cinema. A theater that opened in the 1970’s, this venue screens classics and art films for all the true cinema junkies out there. Part arthouse, part bar; this is a great place to go to get lost in a good film. Check out “The Beguiling Bujold” themed screenings showing from August 10th-16th, showcasing movies by the Canadian actress Genevieve Bujold.
Rooftop Cinema ClubWebsite: http://rooftopcinemaclub.com/new-york/
The Rooftop Cinema Club hosts summer viewings at two locations: at OfficeOps in Bushwick and at the Yotel in Hell’s Kitchen. The Yotel venue gives a great outdoor experience with a view of the skyline of the West side of Manhattan while the OfficeOps venue gives you a scenic view of a beautiful Brooklyn neighborhood. Book your tickets now for showings of films like Some Like It Hot on August 19th.
HBO Bryant Park Summer Film FestivalWebsite: http://bryantpark.org/programs/hbo-bryant-park-film-festival
Taking place from late June to mid-August, the lawn in Bryant Park opens up to the public for The HBO Film Festival. The film festival is a summer tradition in New York. Grab a blanket, sit in the park, and enjoy one of the great selections of classic films that HBO provides. Don’t miss the screening of Dirty Dancing on August 21st!
Syndicated- BrooklynWebsite: http://syndicatedbk.com/
If you want to take a break from all of the outdoor film showings, head to Syndicated in Brooklyn! Syndicated is a restaurant, bar, and theatre all rolled into one in the heart of Bushwick. Enjoy a nice summer film such as Jaws or Independence Day over brunch with friends.
